At Foliware, we believe true sustainability is rooted in total transparency, empirical science, and uncompromising accountability. The pages below document exactly what our tableware is made of, what independent laboratories have measured, and how the product aligns with food-contact regulation across every market we serve.
01

Pure by Nature: Sourcing & Material Science

Our tableware is crafted strictly from naturally shed leaf sheaths of the Areca catechu palm tree. No trees are cut or harmed; the palm drops its sheaths naturally once mature.

Natural Plant Chemistry

  • Cellulose (56–75%): Delivers tensile strength and core structural backbone.
  • Hemicellulose (7–22%): Provides natural flexibility and form retention.
  • Lignin (6–22%): Acts as a natural aromatic binder providing inherent grease and water resistance.
  • Natural Waxes (~5%) & Pectin (~1%): Surface-sealing organic elements.

Pure Mechanical Processing

Cleaned exclusively with water meeting IS 10500 drinking-water standards and shaped via high-pressure thermal moulding (150–200°C). Zero chemical glues, synthetic resins, plasticizers, or bleaching agents are ever added.

02

Certified Laboratory Safety & Chemical Purity

Independent analytical verification is conducted through premier international testing networks, including accredited global facilities under the GBA Group and specialized European food-contact testing hubs (such as LQM Spain and partner analytical divisions), validating an exceptionally clean safety profile. Every result below references a specific, authenticated laboratory report.

A. Overall Migration Compliance (Reg. 1935/2004, IS 9845:1973 RA:2020 & LFGB Standards)

Tested across diverse food simulants under European Framework Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004, standardized IS 9845 analytical testing methodology, and German LFGB § 30 & § 31 requirements to confirm structural inertness and organoleptic (taste/odor) neutrality:

Food SimulantMeasured MigrationLimit
Distilled Water0.69 mg/dm²10.0 mg/dm²
10% Ethanol0.51 mg/dm²10.0 mg/dm²
20% Ethanol0.80 mg/dm²10.0 mg/dm²
50% Ethanol1.14 mg/dm²10.0 mg/dm²
3% Acetic Acid (Acidic Foods)1.70 mg/dm²10.0 mg/dm²
Conclusion

All migration values sit well below the legal maximum limit of 10.0 mg/dm², supporting structural stability and taste/odour neutrality under EU and German benchmarks. Source: GBA Group accredited laboratory, report TR-26-EKA1-096820-02, tested to IS 9845:1973 RA:2020.

Global Market Compliance & Regulatory Alignment

European Union, Germany & the Netherlands

  • Framework Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 & LFGB § 30/§ 31: Fully compliant with European food-contact material safety, chemical inertness, and German organoleptic neutrality standards.
  • Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU) 2025/40: Aligns cleanly with modern European packaging sustainability directives.
  • Single-Use Plastics Exemption: As natural bio-matter shaped without synthetic coatings or plastics, the products are exempt from the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD) (EU) 2019/904.

Great Britain (UK) Frameworks

  • Retained UK Law & UK Food Contact Regulations: Aligns fully with UK food-contact safety legislation mirroring EU 1935/2004 standards, the General Food Law Regulations, and UK Health and Safety Executive guidelines.
  • Tax Efficiency: Completely outside the scope of the UK Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) due to zero plastic content.

Australia, New Zealand & GCC Countries

  • FSANZ & GSO Alignment: Meets food safety and chemical migration standards governed by Food Standards Australia New Zealand and the Gulf Standardization Organization.
04

Manufacturing Standards & Quality Assurance

While formal third-party "GMP certificates" are traditionally structured for pharmaceutical or chemical processing plants rather than natural agricultural biomass, Foliware operates under strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles aligned with Regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006.

  • Quality Assurance System: Rigorous internal standard operating procedures covering raw material collection, thermal-moulding controls (150–200°C), and hygienic post-production packaging.
  • Global Testing Validation: Our compliance pipeline is benchmarked through premier international networks including the GBA Group and European centers like LQM Spain, ensuring our migration and purity data matches the highest tier of Western regulatory expectations.
  • Declaration of Compliance (DoC): Compliance is legally formalized through our signed Manufacturer's Declaration of Compliance, supported by lot-specific traceability linking production batches directly to independent laboratory test references.
05

The Hard Science of Safety: Beyond Commercial Badges

In today's global market, generic marketing badges or commercial certification labels are frequently overemphasized. At Foliware, we believe that hard empirical science and verifiable migration data supersede paper certifications. While competitors rely on generalized brand labels, our safety is proven by molecular-level physics:

The Empirical Reality

Regulatory compliance under EU 1935/2004 and LFGB is determined by what actually transfers into food under real thermal and chemical stress, not by a brand name on a certificate. Our GBA Group and LQM Spain analytical reports provide concrete, batch-linked proof of chemical inertness, proving that our pure thermal moulding process leaves zero chemical traces behind.

06

Navigating International Standards

Global regulatory frameworks operate under different legal architectures. While the European Union and UK evaluate natural materials on post-market chemical inertness and migration safety (Reg. 1935/2004 and LFGB), other regions, such as the U.S. FDA under Import Alert 23-15, enforce pre-market additive notification frameworks.

Global Context

For our European and international partners, physical science and independent laboratory data prevail: Foliware's rigorous testing proves structural stability, chemical inertness, and compliance with local safety laws, ensuring safe and authorized distribution across target markets worldwide.
